-Developed a vaccination to cure polio: After going through one of the longest clinical trials in history, the vaccine was approved and ended the polio virus in the US. -Opened the Salk Center for Biological Studies: He soon became the founding director of this research center where many viruses and illnesses were studied including cancer, HIV, AIDS and other diseases. -Wrote several philosophical books: Including a book that he co-wrote with his son. -Featured on the cover of TIME magazine: Jonas Salk became a national hero once the vaccine was open to the public, and one of his recognitions was being on the front cover of TIME magazine with a featured article, as well as many newspaper headlines. |
